Six Teams raced under the US Flag at the ARWS Nordic Islands Adventure Race in the Faroe Islands:
Rootstock Racing (#2), Dark Zone Podcast/NYARA (#3), Strong Machine Adventure Racing (#8), Bend Racing/Four Hour Fuel (#17), Rib Mountain Racing (#19), Tower Racing (#25)
Abbey Perkiss from Rootstock Racing tells of the teams adventures in the Faroe Islands
Eighteen-year-old Fynn Mitchell of New Zealand raced with Team Bend Racing/Four Hour Fuel at the ARWS Nordic Islands Adventure Race and had his mother nervous. The team placed third in the race.
Strong Machine was up to the challenge at the ARWS Nordic Islands Adventure Race
The team posted this account to their facebook page: How to describe the Nordic Islands Adventure Race in the Faroe Islands... Magical and moody, steep and rocky, challenging and satisfying, unique in every way.
The team (Cliff, Kate, Glen, and Garrison) finished 12th in this year's edition. We executed our race plan very well and savored every moment of this life-changing event. It will take us a while to fully process this one!
Sending a big thanks to our family, friends, and fans for their support and good vibes while we raced through 6 days and nights. Special thanks to Staffan Björklund, Micke Hanell, Kirsten Oliver Photography, and the many many amazing volunteers and other race staff that helped to put on this amazing event!
Rib Mountain raced to a 10th place finish at the ARWS Nordic Islands Adventure Race
Jesse Spangler of Rib Mountain Racing described the race as a “once in a lifetime experience” on his facebook page:
Nordic Islands Adventure Race 2023 in Faroe Islands was absolutely incredible! 350miles, 45000 feet elevation gain, paddling, hiking, biking, laughing, cliffs, majestic views, amazing teammates (Tim Buchholz, Anna Kirsti, James Galipeau.)
The Faroe Islands are in the North Atlantic, kind of between Norway and Iceland. The weather is unpredictable, the cliffs are steep, and the water is cold. Our team had a solid race and finished 10th overall in under 5 days. Tim navigated us between the dangerous cliff bands at night, in the fog, and in terrible weather.
Some of the pics are of other teams, but I want to share some of the amazing scenery and pictures from ARWS - Adventure Racing World Series! I also posted some Google Earth terrain photos and race maps to show some of the areas that we had to traverse at night and in the fog.
This race was a once in a lifetime experience and I am grateful I was able to do it. The pics don’t really capture the magnitude of the rugged, grandiose scenery.
